VaporFi is a brand that creates "chef-inspired" e-liquids. Grand Reserve is one of their newer product lines with a standard 70/30 VG to PG ratio.

Being "chef-inspired" flavors, the people who prepare this peculiar line of e-juice go beyond what you would normally expect from a vape liquid.

Going into my first choice of this brand blindly, I chose this bottle as I found the name catchy. I also like my share of pineapple products, so this seemed like a promising decision.

Turns out I made a good call. Instead of the pineapple flavor I was expecting, I got a really exciting mix of watermelon and what I found out later was hibiscus mixed with star fruit. The tart flavor of the pineapple blended well with the mild sweetness of the watermelon.

The hibiscus portion of the flavor was hard to detect. There is only a slight hint in the aftertaste, which VaporFI mentions as the "sexy" element in this e-juice. It's an apt description of how hibiscus almost feels like a parting touch before the flavor vanishes into thin air.

I think that's something that gives you something sweet and savory and a whisper of sweet nothing. But, kidding aside, the flavors it conveys are excellent.

Packaged in a container reminiscent of a milk carton, Milkman is a MAX VG e-liquid that combines the flavor of toasted fruit tart, vanilla ice cream and a scoop of milk into a unified whole.

Supposedly, this product was supposed to be a bridge between dessert and breakfast cereal. I think the description is pretty accurate.

The folks at The Vaping Rabbit have done a great job mixing up a healthy flavor that makes me think I'm eating a decadent fusion of puff pastry and creamy vanilla custard.

That being said, I find the taste to be pleasant. It's not the most memorable juice I've ever had, but it's far from bad. Unfortunately, I did run into some issues, however.

Since the bottle comes in a box, I was a little disappointed to find that there was no way to tell how much juice was left on the outside. I get that the milkman is supposed to look like an old school glass of milk, but it's annoying not being able to tell how much juice I have left.

Another problem is that this e-juice leans heavily towards the sweet side. It's not so decadent that I can't vape it, but the juice made my coil so dirty that I had to replace it after two days.

This company specializes in premium organic vape juices that come in a wide variety of flavors. Their products reportedly do not use artificial additives and are also gluten free.

So how does the all-natural competition stack up?

I chose Tobacco Ridge Patriot's Brew, it is my favorite juice of their products. As an ex-smoker, I thought it would be fun to try the flavor for old time's sake. Turns out I ended up getting a lot more than I bargained for.

Like many others, I started smoking at social events where alcohol was involved. Usually whiskey or beer in my case.

The deep, rich tobacco flavor carries with it just a hint of whiskey, maple, and smoky vanilla.

Naturally, the next step was to get myself a can of cold beer, which I found paired incredibly well with the flavor of the juice. The comforting coolness after the throat hit is what convinced me to go for a second can.

To be completely clear, the chilled glass of whiskey on the rocks I made afterwards was not for personal enjoyment, but for serious scientific testing.

That being said, I'm not going to deny that Patriot's Brew pairs satisfactorily with said drink.

Beard Vape Co uses a hilarious image of a bearded man wearing sunglasses for their logos in what has to be one of the smartest and funniest marketing moves around.

And instead of using a catchy name to denote the main flavors of their juice, they use a "beard number."

I admit to being a little disappointed that all their logos have the same beard design, but that hasn't stopped me from trying one of their bottles.

beard no. 32 is that of a sweet cinnamon blend. It is not a flavor that everyone likes, but having had the opportunity to try cinnamon tea and becoming a fan, this e-juice was one that I wanted to try.

The power level that cinnamon scent brings to the table is right in the acceptable strike zone. The flavor is a bit strong, but the added sweetness does an excellent job of toning down the harshness of the cinnamon.

A good comparison would be how to vaporize the flavor of a churro. It was easy to imagine the clouds I was exhaling as warped Ferris wheels and my vape pen as a carnival snack.

Vape Dinner Lady is an e-juice brand dedicated to recreating the taste of English desserts. Apple Pie comes from a line of products based explicitly on English breakfast delights.

Let it be known that I love apple pie.

The color of the bottle itself is bright green, reminiscent of a Granny Smith apple; the container already does the job of mentally prompting my enjoyment of the sour fruit.

Interestingly, Granny Smiths are often known to be used as baked apples. The bottle packaging cleverly nudges your brain into remembering the taste of a raw green apple before surprising you with the sweetness of warm apple pie.

Like turning sour to sweet, the coloring in the bottle sets it up for a taste, but it actually tastes like the baked apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar mixture you'd find inside a cake. On the inhale, the flavors of the blend impart a surprising level of acidity balanced by the sweet essence of sugar on the exhale.

Seriously, thanks to the person who created the bottle design. They know their kitchen. Even the throat hit is reminiscent of the expected warmth of a cake that warms the palate and the back of the mouth.

There are a myriad of reasons why this juice makes it to the top of my list of VG e-liquids, despite the difficulty of picking just one product out of five.

The first reason is that I really found myself enjoying the stronger throat hit of the Pineapple Pow. I previously said that this juice reminded me of sangria, but the following burn almost emulates the similar sensation of drinking a slightly strong liquor. But just like the liquor, the juice becomes smoother as it soaks and ages within a few days.

The second reason is compared to e-liquids that are harder on Milkman or Beard No. 32 coil type, Pineapple Pow doesn't cause as much goo buildup. Poetically, this e-juice is almost delicate in its function, smoothly drenching the wick seamlessly, just as you would expect a fancy drink to quench your thirst.

But you lose it until the glass, or tank in this case, is empty and you have to ask for a refill.

In the case of smoke texture and density, this juice will not win any awards. Although I don't think this is a problem. The overall taste of this e-liquid is at the top of the category and that is what I liked the most.

What is VG used for?

Most e-liquids are usually made up of a few different ingredients. In most cases, it is a combination of nicotine, flavoring, propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). The term "High VG" refers to e-juice that contains at least 70% VG.

VG is the mix portion of an e-liquid that produces a light, sweet taste. This ingredient also creates huge clouds of cool vapor, the stunning visual effect of which is sought after by many vapers.

Why increase VG in the first place?

Personally speaking, I keep high and low VG e-juice mixes in my drawers at home. There are days when I want a stronger throat hit, on others I like to indulge in sweeter flavors.

Often e-juice with a high VG percentage tends to add sweeter aromas to the mix, resulting in a smooth and pleasant experience. Add to that the big, voluminous clouds of vapor that give off that satisfying ASMR vibe.

High VG e-liquid is my go-to juice when I want to sit on my front porch and spend an hour steaming while listening to music. It's a great way to unwind when you need an hour to wind down. Just grab your vape mod, sit back and relax as you make your clouds in the night sky.

Aside from the cloud-chasing, mind-calming effect and great taste, vaping a high VG e-liquid is like breathing soft velvet.

How to choose a good e-juice

It's hard to say which is the best high VG e-liquid. Everyone has their preferences when it comes to the type of juice they vape, and I am no different in that regard.

With that being said, my list of what I like in a high VG mix isn't all that complicated.

I like

I'm not the type of person who likes overly sweet flavors. While occasionally inhaling cotton candy is delightful, I want something a bit smoother and more refreshing for long-term vaping.

A good tip to find your taste preference is to think about whether you prefer fruit or sweet.

If you like fruit, consider going for a lighter, crisper flavor that sits almost silently on your tongue.

If you prefer sweets, cakes or cookies, opt for something sweeter and heavier to enjoy when your sweet tooth kicks in.

Texture

Some people may prefer their juices to be ultra-smooth, but I like my VG blends to be silky smooth with just enough kick to feel like I'm not just breathing in thick mist.

A little throat hit adds to the feeling of satisfaction I get after exhaling a puff of smoke and keeps me from smoking too often.

Take a moment to think about whether or not you like the smoke-like burn. Digging a bit deeper, different e-liquids have slight variations in the feel of the vapor you draw.

Some mixes will produce a thicker cloud, while others will create something fluffier.

Reasons to stay under VG

I mentioned earlier how I keep the VG fluid high and low. The main reason for this is that I want a harder throat some days, but there are other factors besides that.

• Sweet e-juice tends to rack up reels faster than its less tasty contemporaries.
• Not the best for mouth to lung vaping.
• Pod vaporizers have problems with high VG e-juice as they are unable to vaporize the liquid properly.

Personally, I would recommend new vapers try a 50/50 mix of PG to VG to see what they prefer. I generally advise ex-smokers looking for a more substantial throat hit to avoid high VG e-juice.

This is mainly because the closer vaping feels to your old habit, the easier it is to switch from smoking to vaping completely.
